About
The Port Townsend Psychedelic Society is dedicated to nurturing a sense of reverence and understanding for entheogens and their therapeutic capabilities among our local community. We stand firmly behind the principles of decriminalization, embracing a holistic approach that encompasses cultivation, sharing, and responsible usage. Our unwavering commitment revolves around ensuring that these transformative substances are accessible to all in a fair and equitable manner.
Our primary goal is to enlighten and empower members of our community, equipping them with the knowledge and tools needed to engage with psychedelics safely, respectfully, and with purpose. We firmly believe that entheogens have the potential to foster a more vibrant and interconnected community, one where individuals find deeper connections with themselves, with one another, with the natural world, and with their spiritual well-being.
Services
CommunityAt the heart of our organization lies a strong commitment to community building, where we foster connections and offer support to our members. This includes providing peer support groups for integration, recovery, grief, and more. We actively participate in local festivals by setting up and staffing a psychedelic peer support tent, ensuring the safety and well-being of attendees. Additionally, we expand our community through engaging events like potlucks and various gatherings. We’re always on the lookout for opportunities to serve our community and support local businesses, nurturing relationships with people, food, and the land. Collaboration is essential, and we work to build alliances with other organizations that share our values.EducationEducation is a cornerstone of our mission. We are dedicated to providing the knowledge and resources needed for safe, responsible, and ethical psychedelic use. This includes offering classes and trainings on topics such as peer support, cultivation, and microdosing. We host symposiums, workshops, and talks on various special topics, all aimed at sharing trusted information on the healing potential of psychedelics. We’re in the process of developing curriculums and educational materials to further our educational efforts. Our next goal is to create a public health educational campaign, reaching a broader audience with our message.AdvocacyAdvocacy is another vital aspect of our work. We actively champion the cause of decriminalization and advocate for the adoption of grow, gift, gather models that ensure equitable access to entheogens. We strive to protect community-based practices and resist limiting access exclusively to therapeutic or medical models. Our advocacy efforts have yielded success, as we’ve played a key role in passing three resolutions supporting the decriminalization of entheogens. These resolutions were adopted by the Jefferson County Board of Health (July 2021), Port Townsend City Council (December 2021), and Jefferson County Board of Commissioners (May 2023), making us the first in the country to achieve this milestone. Our purpose at the Port Townsend Psychedelic Society is to cultivate an appreciation and respect for entheogens and their potential for healing within our community. We advocate for decriminalization, embrace a holistic approach, and are committed to ensuring equitable access to these medicines. Our mission is to educate and empower our community members to engage with psychedelics safely, respectfully, and effectively, fostering a healthier community interconnected with themselves, each other, the natural world, and spiritual well-being. We also acknowledge and honor the Indigenous peoples of the land on which we operate, and we are committed to supporting Indigenous communities in any way we can.
